Ballet Stretch

Ballet Stretch requires no prior dance experience and is great for any person who desires to either further their dance training or get a solid foundation before trying other classes. While incorporating classical ballet with stretching and strengthening techniques you will focus on strengthening your core and creating space in the body through the center.

Please note: You will need ballet shoes or sox to attend this class.

Intro to Hip Hop

Intro to Hip Hop is all about having fun and getting your groove on while learning the fundamentals of Hip Hop dance and culture. Whether you're looking for a fun new way to get in shape or to add a bit of spice to your life, this is the class for you. From old school popping and locking to music video style, there is a diverse range of movement that allows any level of dancer to be able to connect with their own body and the music. The class will begin with warm-up which will focus on body isolations, flexibility, footwork, and core strength, which will help you grow stronger and improve each week. Following warm up a high-energy, up beat combination will be taught and worked on for several weeks giving you a chance to fully understand the movement and explore and incorporate you own style. To feel the full benefits of class, Emily encourages you to attend class regularly.

Intermediate / Advanced Hip Hop

This class is a step up from Intro. While it's still all about having fun and getting your groove on, the moves are much more complex and usually involve using more than one body part at the same time. No need to panic though, the choreography is clean and smooth and broken down step by step so anyone can do it. The class will begin with a warm-up focusing on body isolations, flexibility, footwork, and core strength, which will help you grow stronger and improve each week. Following warm up a high-energy, up beat combination will be taught and worked on for several weeks giving you a chance to fully understand the movement and explore and incorporate you own style. To feel the full benefits of class, Emily encourages you to attend regularly.

Street Jazz

Don’t let the name scare you. This class is safe for all levels with just a little more sass and technique than Hip Hop. While blending Jazz techniques and Hip Hop street styles, Street Jazz is a mastery fusion that allows you to explore your inner diva while learning the fundamentals of Jazz and Hip Hop. Beginning with an elaborate warm up that focuses on body isolations, core strength, balance, and flexibility, this class allows you to improve your technical skills and strength week after week. Don’t worry it’s not all sweat and tears. Following the warm up a fun and upbeat routine will be taught and worked on for several weeks allowing you to fully understand the movement and explore and incorporate you own style. Emily breaks down each move step by step in great detail guaranteeing you’ll be busting out a full combination by the end of each class!! To feel the full benefits of class, Emily encourages you to attend regularly.

Burlesque Funk

While fusing popular dance styles such as waacking, vogueing, hip hop and nuvo-burlesque to create a brand new exciting style of movement, this class is great for beginners or anyone who wants to gain self confidence and feel sexy! In this class you will be lead in a brief warm-up focusing on core strength and flexibility followed with some across the floor movement then into a sensual and sassy routine that will be taught in 4 week sessions. This is NOT a "stripper" class nor does it promote any such life style. The techniques learned in this class are designed specifically to create a fun and inspiring atmosphere for every woman and encourage freedom of expression, strength, and empowerment while at the same time getting in shape!

Please come in either bare feet, sox, or clean/dry athletic type shoes. Wear comfortable, fitted clothing or feel free to dress up in frills and high heels!!

Basic Grooves

This class is designed for all levels of dancers (from first timers to advanced) to have fun and share the joy of dance while at the same time burning calories and getting in shape. The movement is simple enough and broken down step by step so that anyone can learn it and bust a move. While focusing on fundamentals such as isolations, flexibility, coordination, and strength, Basic Grooves allows you to get to know your body, loosen up, build strength, as well as develop a new understanding of urban dance. The class will begin with the usual warm-up followed by a simple yet high energy routine that will be added to and worked on each week.

Basic Grooves is a fun yet educational approach to learning about dance and your body as well as a place to build strong relationships while groovin to old school classic jams! It is a guarantee you will be laughing and loving this class within the first 5 minutes. To feel the full benefits of class, Emily encourages you to attend regularly.

Fusion Rhythms

If you love Zumba or NIA you'll definitely love Fusion Rhythms! Specially unique to Soul Step and designed by Emily Fine, Fusion Rhythms is a dance based workout/aerobics class that improves fitness, self expression, and coordination through movement. While Emily utilizes her extensive dance background to blend Modern, Hip Hop, Jazz, African, Latin, Yoga, and Martial Arts with an eclectic mix of spiritual and soulful music, this class has become a Soul Step favorite. It is safe for any fitness level and provides a whole-body, cardiovascular workout. Be prepared to sweat and feel great while experiencing the quickest hour you've ever spent burning so many calories. Practiced bare-foot or in sneakers, Fusion Rhythms is a great way to stimulate the body, raise the spirit, and get in shape!

Urban Contemporary

This class is a fusion of modern/contemporary dance and urban/street styles. Instructor Emily Fine utilizes her extensive background in hip hop, jazz, modern, and ballet to create a unique movement vocabulary thats smooth and fluid yet bold and edgy. Move in and out of the ground with rhythm, musicality, pulse, flow, and release. This is a fairly technical class and some dance training is required.

House

House is a nightclub dance style that originated in New York and Chicago in the early 80’s following the disco era. It’s a super fun and high energy dance style that is set to funky and soulful house music and incorporates many different types of urban dance. Be prepared for some crazy footwork and lots of sweat!! This class does require a certain level of physical exertion and coordination. Some dance knowledge recommended.

Urban Tots

Urban Tots is a relaxed environment where kids ages 3-5 can learn simple dance techniques and coordination as well as begin to develop their own sense of expression. This class will set a foundation for kids and help them learn how to repeat movements and feel rhythm in music.  We will use props and across the floor combinations as well as basic stretches. Please make sure your child is dressed comfortably with either bare feet, clean sneakers, or slippers with grips used only for dance class.

Please note:

A class partner who is willing to be responsible for child's involvement is required.  (for example: mother, father, grandmother, grandfather, aunt, uncle etc.)

Children's Rhythm in Motion/Youth Hip Hop

This is a fun and interactive class that introduces dance not only as an art form but as a creative tool for interpreting rhythm and emotion in music. It teaches children how to freely express themselves through urban movement styles as well as how to creatively incorporate their own personality and explore their creativity. The class will consist of a warm-up as well as various routines that will focus on body isolations, basic footwork, stretching, rhythm exercises, and most importantly having fun!

Youth Break Dancing

Breakdancing or B-Boying is a street dance style that evolved as a part of the Hip Hop Movement during the early 1970’s. This class will teach the fundamentals such as foot work, power moves, and freezes as well as allow the kids to work towards gaining their own unique style and flow. Freedom of expression and creativity is encouraged. Although this class is safe for any fitness level, Break dancing is a whole body dance form that can require some athletic knowledge and skill. Kneepads, elbow pads, hats, and beanies are encouraged.

Rhythm Tap

This is a basic tap class that not only covers the fundamentals of tap but encourages you and gives you the skills to find your own rhythms and sounds. The class is structured so that beginner and expert alike can learn something new and express themselves!  It will start with a simple warm up that covers some basics and gets your blood flowing then move into across the floor and then short routines to work on memory and coordination! So, grab your tap shoes and lets make some noise!!
Please dress comfortably, and a low heel is preferable, however, any tap shoe is fine.
